Dover Days experience from a member of Southern Meadow

I would like to let everyone know about our experience at Dover Days.  We read Christine's e-mail to meet her under the Golden Fleece Tavern sign on State St.  We had never noticed the sign before.  We now know this is where Delaware ratified the United States Constitution on December 7, 1787, becoming the FIRST STATE to do so.  The parade was wonderful, the school bands were fantastic.  After the parade we walked down to see the vendors.  I have seen a lot of vendors, flea markets, etc.  but this was so well organized.  We definitely will not miss it next year.

Happy Memorial Day ~ Thank you to all who have served

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

Meet and Greet

When you move to a new community sometimes you wonder, Who are my neighbors?? Finding the time to introduce yourself (in between unpacking and getting settled) is usually left to chance. Yes, the welcoming committee came to your house and introduced themselves and offered to answer any questions you may have but you just moved in, there are boxes everywhere. Usually meeting everyone in the community is the last thing that you do when you do. Sooo we at Southern Meadow have solved that problem with a Meet and Greet! The last Meet and Greet was a breakfast theme with bagels, muffins, cinnamon buns and coffee, tea and juice. Make sure you come to the next one and get to know your neighbors, it's a wonderful thing, friends that are new soon become old friends!!!

Happy Mother's Day

A Mother…
When you’re a child she walks before you,
To set an example.
When you’re a teenager she walks behind you
To be there should you need her.
When you’re an adult she walks beside you
So that as two friends you can enjoy life together..

Dover Days!

Come join in the fun, as Dover, Delaware celebrates the exciting history of our First State's Capital City! This year's Dover Days Festival proves to be bigger and better than ever—and you won't want to miss a minute of the many FREE festivities! Held on The Green and Legislative Mall, two beautiful outdoor parks in the historic downtown district, Dover Days unites heritage, tradition and modern attractions into a festival that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Now in its 79th year, Dover Days is Delaware's longest running festival that celebrates First State history — with more than 25,000 people coming from all over the Mid-Atlantic states to celebrate the weekend's events, May 4-6.
Springtime is beautiful in Dover, and Dover Days offers so many ways to enjoy it—in a weekend jam-packed with fun for the entire family. Get a glimpse of Delaware's enriching history, through huge parades, traditional Maypole dancing with children in Colonial attire, walking tours, major Civil War Encampment, free admission to numerous museums, and more. Immerse yourself in the ages through costumed reenactments of the Renaissance, the Civil War and WWII. You can see the Governor's mansion first-hand. And enjoy all the excitement of the festival, with more than 200 arts and crafts vendors, delicious foods, live entertainment, children's activities, a hot classic car show, and more.

There is a parade and a pet parade!  Line up is between 8-9 am at Central Middle School!  Come on out and meet me by the green.  I will be at the corner of State Street and Green Street under the sign that says Golden Fleece Tavern (It is a little sign that juts out from a building).  Mini-me and me will be there to cheer everyone on in the parade!  After the parade stroll down by legislative hall and check out all the vendors and games.  Wrap the day up at in the Holy Cross Gym for the International Food Festival (my friend cooks the best pig!)  Tickets can be purchased at the door!  See you about 9 am!
