Through the Garden Gate 2012

Through the Garden Gate with Dollie and Jonalyn

The Southern Meadow Community Garden is on its way to a bountiful harvest. All the hard work in preparing the soil, planting, weeding, watering, weeding, watering, weeding, is now beginning to pay off.

In late April, eight of the residents signed up to work a plot. Since it was first come, first choice, everyone strived to be on time in order to pick a plot closest to the water wagon.

In May with the frequent rains, this decision doesn’t seem so important. However, come July and August, carrying the water buckets in 90°+ heat is a tough job.

The first yellow squash, tomatoes, radish, lettuce, zucchini, spinach, and pepper always seem to taste the best.

It won’t be long until we gardeners will be sharing our bounty with our neighbors. Watch for freebies in the clubhouse!
