This month we had 2 different types of Coffee Talk, the first was Zumba and the second was a Care Giver Support Forum where Vitas Hospice came out to speak about all of the options a care giver can have to help their loved ones have a full and enriching quality of life.

Busy as a Bee at Southern Meadow!

Feb 12th - Private Party in the Clubhouse from 1-5

Feb 13th - Caring Committee Meeting 11 am. If you would like to join any of our committees come join us at a meeting! Canasta is one of the most popular card games, played all over the world. Canasta follows the most common game rules and is beautifully designed in a classical style. The sophisticated Canastais a challenge for all players. Come on out and learn how to play Canasta at 2 pm!

Feb 14th - Cherish your loved one on this very special day! Take a romantic walk or dine at a wonderful restaurant. Don't forget the flowers and the candy!! Head on over to the Bowling Alley at 2 pm and bowl the day away with your loved one! After your fine dinner head on over to the Clubhouse for Ping Pong at 7 pm!

Feb 15th - Join us at 2 pm in the Clubhouse for Coffee Talk snack on some cookies and sip your coffee while learning about all the signs of care giver burn out along with services that are offered to help you keep your loved one at home but to give you a well deserved break.

Feb 16th - Knitting and sewing at 2 pm is an event that can't be missed. Head on over to see all the wonderful things the ladies of Southern Meadow are making for family, friends, their homes and the outreach program! At 6:30 join us for an Open Party, a Premier Jewelry Party and get that special piece of jewelry that will jazz up everything you wear!

Feb 17th - TGIF day!! Wrap the week up with Puzzle Mania at 12 pm and Pinnochle at 2 pm. Thanks to everyone for their coupon donations for Expired Coupons for Overseas Military, the coupons will be collected and sent out to our adopted family! Grab your pool stick and head on over to the Clubhouse at 7 om for pool and poker. Enjoy your weekend!

Well, this coffee talk wasn't for any one looking to sit down, put their feet up and chill! This month's coffee talk (1 of 2) was a get up off the couch, throw on your sneakers and don't forget your water bottle, your heart rate is gonna go up and you are gonna sweat to the music while you ZUMBA with Jessica!

What a turn out we had, and the music selection was AWESOME. Everyone was twisting, cha-cha'ing and rockin' out to Tina Turner's Proud Mary (minus the heels) and cooling down to Michael Buble Save the Last Dance for Me (one of my favorites!)

Jessica will be returning next month so what are you waiting for?? DITCH THE WORK OUT AND JOIN THE PARTY AT SOUTHERN MEADOW

Zumba at Coffee Talk

The week of February 5-11 is pretty full at Southern Meadow!

5th SUPERBOWL SUNDAY! Patriots, Giants Rematch....watch with all of your friends in the Clubhouse! This highly anticipated game is going to be AMAZING!

6th....Join us in the Clubhouse at 2 pm and roll the dice in a game of Bunco!
Dine in at Hibachi Steakhouse 4 pm. For $13.95 feast on Filet Mignon with one of the following (shrimp, chicken, scallops, salmon, tilapia) includes salad, vegetables and fried rice.

7th.....Did you know this day is Wave all Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day! Now now please be nice to all of your neighbors! LOL Don't forget to join everyone at the Dover Bowling Alley at 2 pm!

8th.....The much anticipated coffee talk! Dress in your best sneakers and sweats and ZUMBA the afternoon away with Jessica at 1 pm. Don't miss this chance at an amazing work out catered especially for the 55+ crowd! After you finish up your workout grab that kite for Kite Flying Day!

9th....Are you interested in a Progressive Dinner Party? Well, join us at the Club for a Progressive Dinner Meeting, plan out the menu and the houses! 12 pm

10th....Keep your hands moving and your mind fresh with Puzzle Mania at 12 pm followed by Pinochle at 2pm

11th.....Whew, I need to relax!

Southern Meadow had another successful Meet and Greet. Neighbors new and old gathered to catch up and to meet the new neighbors that have moved into Southern Meadow! Everyone had a chance to introduce themselves and say where they came from (you would be amazed at how many people grew up in the same area in an entirely different state.....it's a small world!) The theme was appetizers and the food was delicious. What are you waiting for??? We are waiting for you to join us at our next meet and greet!

ADT was our guest speaker this month. Discussing ways to make your home even more safe and a companion service for those that lived alone. This companion service would allow you to get help anywhere in the house. ADT making your house safe and sound!

Meet and Greet Meeting

The Welcome Committee met today to prepare for the Meet and Greet on January 11 at 2 pm. The theme is going to be mulled cider and appetizers! If you are interested in setting up for the Meet and Greet we will be meeting in the clubhouse at 12:45. Don't forget to come on out and meet your neighbors!

Also in the clubhouse on January 18th at 10 am we will be meeting to organize and review inventory on hand. If you are interested in helping we will see you there!

Christmas Caroling

Christmas this year during a wonderful time of year! The weather was perfect for Christmas Caroling in Southern Meadow. No need to bundle up and freeze throw on your Santa hat and maybe a sweatshirt and sing through the community!

After all the caroling has been done grab a wonderful bowl of hot soup, appetizers and dessert at the clubhouse....

Southern Meadow is Crazy for Coupons!

That's right! Southern Meadow is Crazy for Coupons! We are adopting an overseas military family and sending all of our unwanted and expired coupons to them! The boxes were just put out for January and they are filling up fast! Check back next week to see the results and find out who our NEW family is overseas!!

Southern Meadow gives back to Homebound Seniors

48 stars were picked up from the Dover Modern Maturity Center and placed on the Christmas Tree in the Southern Meadow Clubhouse. The red and yellow stars is a homebound senior's wish list. By participating in this program we helped to make sure that a homebound senior received a Christmas gift.

The stars stated if you were shopping for a male/female, with a wish list of items priced between $10-$12. Wrap the gift, attach the star and drop it off at the clubhouse. We had a whole entire trunk of gifts that was dropped off at the Dover Modern Maturity Center!

Holiday Cookie Exchange 2011

In honor of the Holiday Season Southern Meadow will be hosting a Holiday Cookie Exchange. Each person was asked to bake a batch of cookies and bring the recipe over to the Clubhouse to share. There was an awesome assortment thumbprints, red velvet, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip dates, molasses, shortbread and my favorite the crescent (or the wedding cookie).

Tis' the season to be jolly FA LA LA LA LA......another party! Southern Meadow's Annual Christmas Party 2011 was at Vincenzo's Restaurant in Dover, DE. OMG the amount of food!! We could have fed a small army! Starting with appetizers that included 2 kinds of pizza, 2 kinds of chicken wings and calamari we moved onto salad and then an entree. The selection was endless, pouring out from the kitchen came scampi, lasagna, stuffed flounder, veal saltimboca on and on! Everyone had a wonderful time wrapping the day up with coffee, cake and gift exchange at the clubhouse!

We took up a whole room in the restaurant

Mr. S. is always smiling and looking quite spiffy all dressed up!

As always a wonderful time with friends old and new! Merry Christmas!

Decking the Halls!

Wow how time flies when you are having fun! Everyone is already gearing up for Christmas which is right around the corner and decorating the clubhouse was at the top of the list so everyone can enjoy it throughout the holiday season! We were right on top of things this year and had the clubhouse decorated before Thanksgiving! We had a beautiful fall day, no wind in sight made hanging the lights easier then last year! The tree was decked out in silver and gold and we even had a train platform....Polar Express can't touch us! After the decorations were up everyone enjoyed sandwiches and cake for dessert. We even had play money and people were able to bid on things at an auction. Fun times with people old and new and next year will be even bigger! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

Franco's Dine In

November has been a blockbuster of celebrations at Southern Meadow. We had the Thanksgiving Covered Dish Party, a Holiday Decorating Party and 2 Birthday Parties!
I think everyone has had more then their share of birthday cake......

The first birthday party was for Rosalie. Telling Rosalie that there was a surprise party for another person, she came armed with her own appetizer and a gift! Was she ever surprised!

A surprise 70th Birthday Party for Mary Jane, the turnout was HUGE!

Craft Fair

What a beautiful day to have a Craft Fair. The weather was perfect, no rain, no snow and no wind! A gorgeous fall day! The ladies of Southern Meadow had a craft fair with a chinese auction followed by a catered chinese dinner. They raised over $250 for the Delaware Food Bank. That is an amazing amount of money to contribute to an organization that helps so many people.

Southern Meadow Pinochle

Hi Everyone! Here at Southern Meadow we have a Pinochle group that meets every Monday at 2 pm in the Clubhouse. We play Double Deck Pinochle with Partners. If you've played Pinochle in the past and would like to start again, please join us. For those of you who have never played and would like to learn, we'd be glad to teach you. It's not that hard to learn. It's a perfect way to spend an afternoon with your neighbors. So please come and join in on the fun and we'll see you every Monday at 2 pm!
